Our History

Through four generations of ownership, the name Martens has been synonymous with farming fresh vegetables in New York State. Due to our high quality of vegetables and reliable service our business has prospered. 


It was all started in 1914 by Emiel Martens, a hardworking farmer with a family and a determination to grow great quality vegetables. Emiel Martens rooted his farm in upstate New York along the Finger Lakes region. For many years the rich fertile upstate soil has produced high quality premium vegetables. As the farming business grew through three generations, the Martens family created Martens Packing Company in 1997. The packing facility enhanced the value of our products by packing premium quality vegetables and sending them directly to our customers. Our grading standards are state of the art with optical grading and anti-bruising detection machines. Our packaging machines insure the weight of each product is highly accurate, and our storage facilities are always climate controlled. We take great pride in providing the absolute freshest products to our retail and food service customers. 


Continuing the determination in 2001, the Martens family integrated the business and extended the product line. Martens Country Kitchen Products was created, a business which offers fresh-cut refrigerated vegetables. The goal was to supply the fast growing food service and processing industry with extended value added fresh-cut products. Providing versatile packaging to our customers' needs and expectations. The Martens Company also provided and still provides quality products, service, and the highest level of food safety. 


The Martens family has created many job opportunities, business relationships, and a brighter future to their community. Present owner and operator Timothy Martens continues to develop and grow his great-grandfathers rooted business.
